April 18, 2014 - I have to say I was a tad disappointed. It had a great nose with deep fruit, hints of leather and lovely caramel. The palate was overly acidic. It was good but that's all. The 904 is far better and the cvne imperial is too. 84 points

    4/18/14, 4:15 AM - Hi there Nicofisher,
Disappointed? Why? At this point this wine, in my modest opinion, is exactly how you've described nicely, profound and harmonious on the nose and perhaps over-acidic to your palate. That high acidity performance used to be an indication of that bottle is needing time to soft or just fine food to be paired with :-)
My adorable Taliban fan club has a different view. They prefer to talk about bottle variation what it's funny for a good wine as you said before, no an extraordinary reserve in any case, like this Ardanza.
In proper conditions and storage a good Ardanza of an outstanding vintage as this 2001, has to go until 2031 without any problem so don't hesitate to lay down a few.
A couple of weeks ago I've been honoured assisting to a 1982 Rioja tasting event that included three bottles of Ardanza. All performed quite good showing its pedigree.
Let's enjoy bottles without any prejudice!
    Cheers!

Btw, I saw you don't want to block my user. Well done! And thanks a lot cause this time wasn't a psycho comment...
    Happy G'Friday!
    Cheers!

I'm not sure why it's so important to you to tell people that they don't know anything or that their own experience shouldn't be trusted. but hey, if you enjoy it, keep at it. As i said, it's disrespectful and you're completely dishonest, regardless of how 'polite' the form of your words are.

4/18/14, 9:52 AM - All, forgive my impermanence, but wine is a personal and very subjective pastime and people who say that I should defer to my betters when a, they do not know me and b, have no idea what I have tasted and actually have in my cellar, have no basis other than to bully, and it is bullying, on my post. If you want to continue this behaviour I will report you. As a point of note I said tad disappointed, that means slightly, if you didn't realise and having recently drank a Grand Cry Burgundy, I can say it rated les s than that by some way. It's all reletive and as stated at the start of this comment all very subjective. Just for reference I have tasted many Riojas and one of my personal favourites is the Gran Reserva 904, also by La Rioja Alta, as well as the 890 by them, so please do not patronise me.

4/18/14, 10:04 AM - I hope it was clear that my 1st comment was satire. I've had both positive and negative experiences with this wine and like Nicofisher, I've been disappointed at times. The satire targets others who tell drinkers of this wine that if they don't like it, then they are either ignorant or confused. That's what I consider unworthy of this forum.

    Also love that academic way.

a Exchange personal experiences and priceless information about bottles we are drinking is not only edifying but necessary to learn everyday about elsewhere wine.
b Because different backgrounds, I'm not talking just of formal education, it's easy to comprehend for everybody that different points of view are displayed
c Even in spanish appellations, I'm learning most of time. I feel so thankful for that. I don't need to probe how much experimented I am but to give mine own for free. Would like to share something that could help to have a better experience. If anyone is considering that offensive, don't needing those comments or those are nothing more than rubbish, a simple solution is to use that block option. For cellars and TNs here too, please.
d In spite of all these things I also understand there are people whom to be reasonable is quite complicated. Rigid frameworks are made to be rigid. That's a lesson to be learnt in time. An ample sense of humour is indispensable in that case if you want to tolerate those who are intolerant even. That's the game we're playing. Of course must be limits...so to call police, CT team, is a final recourse in my illiterate opinion.
e I'm a free speech believer. Sometimes is complicated but necessary to understand where is your place in earth.
As Alexis de Toqueville noted, He who seeks freedom for anything but freedom's self is made to be a slave.
    Disgracefully I met a few :-)

    Keep going!
    Cheers!
