April 23, 2014 - Almost black in color with crimson edge. Nose is all red fruit and a hint of alcohol. Plum and cherry with very little else. Tannins are still noticeable and the finish is still a little hot.
I think I would still give this more time in the bottle or a long decant.
PS. Had a little in the bottle and saved for 4 days corked(no vacuum). Really started to open into something different. Notes of earth and tobacco with spice notes.1 person found this helpful 2,717 views

4/25/14, 11:45 AM - I think that you may be early in drinking this. I am somewhat surprised of how well this wine holds and develops. Recently drank a 99 that was much, much better than ever. Loamy, mushroomy, yet soft and sweet with silkiness.

4/25/14, 2:27 PM - Thanks. I think you are correct. I had a 1997 about two years ago and it drank very well. I really think it needs to resolve itself in bottle for several more years. I have three more and intend to lay them down for a while.
