May 23, 2014 - Base of the capsule showed corrosion and signs of past seepage. Once the cap was removed sediments and mold were present at the crown of the cork. Cork had to be extracted in three pieces and was wet throughout. Color is rich and deep at the core amber at the rim. Nose is complex and full of life, no signs of tainting or spoilage. Initially strong flavors of pennies but the wine completely came together half way through the first glass. What a surprise, delicious and well integrated, soft tannins, spiced pear, licorice, red roses and black cherry. Clearly complex and an easy drinker, still mature and charming. Bottles like this prove how well Bordeaux can hold up even in the face of improper storage and seepage. People that are overly conceded about province simply have not explored wines like this enough. I was anticipating a total dud. Looking forward to my next 1975 Calon Segur!
