June 14, 2014 - Old school -- not a Cali wine. Deep garnet color. I'm not familiar with this varietal (purchased on the 91 points from RP), but has a chateauneuf-de-pape nose; blind, a would've guessed a gamy garnacha. Some leather, graphite, white pepper, and sour cherry on the nose. Palate has a focused core of dark cherry with some noticeable, but finely integrated, tannins. This is not a big, brooding wine; on the contrary, it is light on its feet, but nevertheless has some characteristics of a bigger wine. Good now, but I'd bet this wine will be significantly better in a few years.
