Community Tasting Note

June 20, 2014 - Popped & poured; dark translucent ruby in the glass, with a nose on opening that hints of ripe cherry fruit but is otherwise reticent.

Different - kind of "four square" on the palate - the nose would seemingly indicate a typical young Piemontese red, but on the palate the wine is somewhat "chunky", almost full-bodied, with a bitter note on the finish.

I'll come back to this later tonight, as I've seen some notes talk about the wine coming around after it's been opened a while, but right now this is so-so.

6/23/14, 5:31 PM - So three days later and I'm similarly underwhelmed. Another taster commented about this, but I find the lack of acidity a problem here. I'll caveat all this by saying I drink a lot of nebbiolo, so I may have had a preconceived notion of what I expect out of a red from Piemonte - maybe if I had this blind with a line-up of California Cab I might have a different take on it, but this will be an easy pass for me in the future if this is a typical vintage.
