  September 18, 2014 - Nose of an old cigar caked in dirt and some tar that was then roasted in the oven; some sappy dark fruit notes with a faint hint of herb/rosemary. Medium bodied with sour cherries. The mid palate turns smokey mixed the sappy dark fruit flavors and faint hint of herb seen on the nose. Soft yet mildly drying tannins on the finish.
  
  Seemed like a wine stuck between new and old world without getting the clear benefits of either. Didn't get the riper fruit of a west coast/washington cab franc, and didn't get the strongly vegetal, herbaceous profile of a more traditional chinon. Perhaps an attempt at a stylistically more approachable chinon with an earlier drinking window.
