October 17, 2014 - 2014 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/14/2014-10/21/2014 (New York City, NY): This opaque ruby wine (a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc) is a bruiser. Big black currant fruit, crushed rocks, dark chocolate, licorice and allspice are found on the nose and palate, supported by fresh acidity, well-integrated alcohol (14.6%) and substantial firm tannins. The wine is mouth-coating throughout the middle, concluding with a very long, astringent finish. Give this one some time in the cellar to help resolve the dusty tannins. Drink 2020-2035.

11/10/14, 5:11 PM - Interesting that WS post today indicates this is ready now. I prefer to get consensus (from CT).

11/11/14, 3:56 PM - This was tasted concurrently with Isabel Guilisati from ViƱa Concha y Toro. She was more in line with my impressions regarding the wine's drinking window. Many of the Wine Spectator editors prefer to err on the side of drinking young (which is fine, especially considering that many readers do not have a temperature-controlled environment to cellar wine for extended periods). There is no question in my mind that this wine needs some time in the cellar and will provide pleasure significantly beyond 2020. It is extremely well-made and it is definitely deserving of being in the Wine Spectator's top ten for 2014.
