  December 19, 2014 - Big rich dark extracted Merlot, opaque black-purple. Weighty velvety mouthfeel, like a plummy fruit with an oaken skin. Yes this does have a healthy dose of toasty coconutty wood that melds with the fruit so you will get less pure merlot flavors but at 6 years past vintage the wood no longer struggles with the fruit for dominance but has reached a happy detente. The result is a mouthful of wine starting to show some caramel tones, decent acid balance, and some nuances (hints of bitter chocolate, a clove note). Tannins are fairly sweet and in check. Finishes long and promises some future improvement. 92+
