January 28, 2015 - Modern syrah, fairly concentrated, but not super complex. Notes of ripe black fruits, black and white pepper. 15% alcohol is a bit hot.

1/29/15, 4:07 AM - I see you bought this from my local wine shop!
The 2008 of this, which I had at a restaurant last year, is one of my all time favourite wines, with the 2010 not far behind.
I have a couple of these 2012s, and a couple of cases of the 2013 in order (this herdade is just down the road from me).
I was intending to hold mine for a few more years - how do you think this might develop over the next few years?

1/29/15, 7:42 AM - Yes! I took a weekend trip out to Marvão and Castelo de Vide with a stop in Portalegre. Dom Julio is a very interesting shop, lots of interesting wines. I bought a bottle of the Adega Coop. Portalegre "Portalegre" DOC wine, 2000 vintage. Really superb wine, very surprising.

About the Cem Reis, I think holding it could certainly benefit the wine, hopefully further integrating the alcohol and building some tertiary complexity and general finesse.

1/29/15, 8:48 AM - Last weekend, if memory serves, the weather was fine - to be sure Marvão, Castelo de Vide and Portalegre are interesting towns and it's all very pretty around here. And Dom Júlio have a lot of "interesting" wines you don't really see in more "normal" wine shops. I've tried the Portalegre DOC 2005 but found it a bit sour for my taste - perhaps that, too, needed more time.

I'm going to try to hold the Cem Reis 2012 until 2017, but that won't be easy - every time I pass it on the shelves it seems to be calling to me - hopefully when it's buried under some 2013 it will quite down.
