February 24, 2015 - A bit surprised to find I had no previous TNs on this wine. 2007 is not mentioned in the same breath as 2008, or more recently the much vaunted 2012; in fact it was pretty dodgy given the harvest rains and a lot of wines I tried back then were pretty mean. However, in the past couple of months I have had some '07s that have completely transformed that earlier perspective. This is one. Verging on pale with a clear rim and almost brick red; typical ebullience on the nose and I thought I had a distinct oaky component, which I find unusual with all the flamboyant aromas flying around; bracingly tart red cherry fills the mouth - it is luxurious yet forceful - lingering finish. Really in its element and makes me want more '07s. Honestly I think they could exceed the '08 and '09 vintages that showed well initially. Great structure here.

2/24/15, 10:53 PM - Hello again. Totally agree with you and great note BtW. Love the WR 07s. I can't get my head around the 08s. Disenchanted with reviewers trying to rate OR vintages, I am also frustrated with the wine itself. I just don't understand it. The wines are just not revealing much of anything for me. I think the 08s may never have the beautiful aromatics, terrific acidity and mouth feel, and great structure of the maligned 07s. So, >90+% lie in waiting, taking up cellar space. I don't know when they will get opened. I only hope that my palate doesn't shift when they're ready.

2/25/15, 7:26 AM - '08s need more time perhaps? I haven't had one in quite some time. From what you are saying I would wait longer yet. Need to scour the cellars of WR for more '07s.
