Community Tasting Note

May 11, 2015 - Weekly tasting group #166; A mixed set of red wines. (@ WW): Bouquet with cherries, spiciness and rustic impressions. On the palate red berries like raspberries, cherries, some oak. Chocolate, juicy acidity, round tannin with still a pleasant bite and soft bitterness. Just in the glass the wine was a bit musty, but that disappeared quickly. Beautiful wine, ready now and the next 4 – 5+ years.

5/24/15, 4:28 AM - Tack så mycket ;- ) Indeed I do. I would like to keep track of all the wines I taste. Still many to go, also from the past. I don’t know the assortment of System bolaget, but I hope you can find nice wines there. Skål! (I am curious where in Sweden you live.)

Yes, when it comes to recent releases Systembolaget is excellent, as everything is sold nationwide, even the most exclusive wines (a democratic online system allows anyone to buy for example DRC releases). Prices are mostly fair and sometimes very low, due to large volumes.
However, older vintages is tricky, and one has to look abroad or visit winebars or restaurants. Once in a while importers also sell older vintages through Systembolaget, but this part of the market could certainly improve.

5/24/15, 2:59 PM - Thank you for your reply. Beautiful city with Gamla Stan and Djurgården and more. I stayed at Bredäng Camping some time ago when I was a teenager (and was not interested in wine at all ;-)). The Swedish wine system sounds better than the Norwegian system…

5/24/15, 3:05 PM - I do not have any knowledge of how they sell wine in Norway, but my assumption was that we do it the same way. Do you know how it works there? I guess they have their own Systembolaget, and that they sell both online and in stores. Or?

  • Zweder commented:

5/24/15, 3:13 PM - Sorry, don’t know the details about Norway, except that they have the Vinmonopolet which is more or less the same as Systembolaget. Your example of democratic sales of DRC (Which I still have to taste…) releases was new to me. It could well be my knowledge about the Norwegian system is outdated.

5/24/15, 3:19 PM - Ok, let me know if you come to Stockholm, and I will take you to my local winebar and offer you something nice, preferably a good, red, burgundy, I'm just getting to know Vosne Romanee.
Or why not an old (or new) bordeaux? Maybe something from 2005.

5/24/15, 3:30 PM - :-) Thank you for the invitation. Stockholm is not on my short term list, but if I plan to come to your beautiful city again I will let you know and bring something nice to taste… :-) If it will be Bordeaux 2005 it might be wise to choose a moment between 2020 and 2023…. ;-)
