July 6, 2015 - The bottle looks hideous but it would be foolish to dismiss this wine on those grounds, as the contents are very good indeed. Remarkably young and fresh! Some oak, yes, but not too much for me. Nice balancing acidity, strawberries, leather. Medium bodied. Great! Will improve.

    7/6/15, 2:28 PM - Hi there MMH,
That's what you said, a 90 points bottle, a nice example but also a great one? Wine of the year? One of the best Rioja ever?
That oak you found tends to disappear with time. Less than fifteen years for a GR is reckless in my modest view. Even at this range of winery specially in outstanding vintages like this 2001.
    Cheers!

7/8/15, 3:45 AM - Harley1199, no, this is not the wine of the year for me, and it is pretty far from the greatest rioja ever in my view (based on only those i have drunk, of course). Nevertheless, i think this is a great wine, as also reflected in my score.

    Cheers!

8/3/15, 5:59 PM - I agree with your assessment of this wine 100%, including the rather unsophisticated packaging. However the contents are indeed fine, especially for the reasonable price point. Cheers!

Good enough for a proclaimed Decanter wine of the year? 19,5 points over 20? Fairly? Well, why not. About value, is that what we are looking for? Really? Then La Tâche hasn't that factor :-) Maybe we've to consider value a secondary element.
    Cheers!

8/4/15, 7:19 PM - Harley1199, I don't pay too much attention to what a magazine says about a wine. And here in Canada, Decanter has limited influence. I drink what I like to drink, regardless of the bottle it comes in. And a wine like this does not compare to a great grand cru Burgundy, but that isn't the point is it? It's a nice wine to drink while you wait for your finest bottles to mature, in my opinion.

Different points of view on this one. Nothing important and I am ready to die defending yours even, obviously, it is not mine.
Just wanna understand you've been drinking more Rioja than your 3 CT TNs reflect.
In Spain that magazine has less influence than Canada, mainly for language.
    Cheers!
