August 11, 2015 - Finally got to drink a bottle and I now understand the see-saw of opinions about this wine. Personally, I hated the wine, but I can see why some people love it! "artificial" would be the best word I can use to describe this wine. Felt like I was drinking a glass of Welchs grape juice mixed with root beer. Going to age my other bottle to see if somehow magic happens and it becomes worthy of it's anniversary tag.

8/16/15, 1:32 AM - I also agree. The description of Welch grape juice is spot on. I had a sip and put the rest in the fride. Give it another try today. I love Caymus out of the 90s and early 2000s but this has nothing to do with these wines. I need to decide what to do with my remaining bottles....

8/20/15, 2:08 PM - When K&L Wines sent out their email announcement for this 40th Anniversary bottling they were very careful to NOT comment on the wine... they talked about the winery and the history and NOT the wine. K&L want the sales revenue and want to keep selling the Special Select but don't want their reputation for good taste to be sullied by this concoction. No, I didn't buy any.

Cellartracker shows 27,000+ bottles of this wine in peoples' cellars. No other vintage of Caymus CS has even 10,000. This might indicate that Caymus cranked up production by buying other wineries' excess wines and doctoring it to their specs for r.s and bottling in the fancy bottle. Hah!!
