August 26, 2015 - Although the cork completely disintegrated when I tried to pull it, the wine inside appeared to be in good condition. Deep, dark purple with notable bricking. Surprisingly restrained nose with only hints of fruit and some oak vanilla. Very forward and powerful on the palate, with red fruits and Asian spice, some smoke and leather, and notable acidity and astringency on a long finish. I thought this might be prime for drinking after 11 years, but there is a lot of life (and aging potential) left in this wine. Decanted now (mainly to get rid of the pieces of cork), and plan to drink with beef short ribs tonight in about four hours.
