Community Tasting Note

  • PanosKakaviatos Likes this wine: 92 points

January 23, 2006 - A spicy nose, with jammy black fruit and nice smoky characteristics typical of a good Pessac Leognan wine. The palate is even better, actually very nice, with a refined quality to the tannins, even though one can detect some marmalade. Better than Smith Haut Lafitte, but pales in comparison to the far superior Haut Bailly 2004.

11/8/15, 11:49 AM - Panos, I always appreciate your detailed, focused notes. One query on this one, please: I think you have the 2004 a 91, yet seem to prefer it over the 2003, which you gave 92 points -- am I missing an updated note on the 2004?

    Appreciatively,
    Jonathan

11/12/15, 10:43 PM - Dear Jonathan, thanks for your kind comment! I am just starting to post some older notes of mine on Cellar Tracker. In more recent tastings of both 2003 and 2004, the evolution is such that 2004 still wins out for me, as a more balanced style. You are catching me in Burgundy now, about to taste a bunch of 2014 Gevreys... But I will see if I can post any updates on both vintages of Haut Bailly as soon as possible. Cheers!
