December 18, 2015 - Beautiful and delicate gem. After one hour decanting, the nose is expensive and well-polished. The dark berry smell is pretty clean and focused with a hint of sweet roasted cedar. It's hard to believe that this pure and concentrated wine is only 13.5% alcohol. On the palate, it is so smooth and silky. The taste is dry, but earthy, clear, dark cherry and black tea were found to strengthen the complexity. Another plus is the level of tannin. The silky tannin makes the wine to be a great wine for literally everyone. However, please don't get me wrong. The velvet tannin still makes you mouth watering and supports fairly long lasting. After decanting, the wine showed really strong and concert structure. It should be able to enjoy for 10 to 15 years. The style of this Syrah is different from the previous K vintner's Syrah. Reduced alcohol level turns the wine to a more elegant wine. Btw, elegant rocker! Can you believe that? I am really amazed by Charles Smith this time but in a god way. This is so nice to see the concept of winemaking changing in the USA. I do hope there will be more and more talented winemakers to dedicate on making balanced wine.
