Community Tasting Note

February 7, 2016 - Big, effusive, layered nose of sweet black fruit, smoked meat, camphor and pronounced spice. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with big black fruit and racy, juicy acidic cut. Terrific lift and persistence. The palate flavors are more straight forward than the exotic, enticing nose. I suspect this will get even better. Amazing for a <$20 appellation syrah! NIGHT 2 ADDENDUM: The aromatics are a bit more subdued but consistent in flavor profile. On the palate there is now more depth of flavor with the black fruit accented by spice, meat and asphalt. Still features lively energy and cut.

2/7/16, 9:17 PM - Rich, thanks for the note. I have always had a fondness for this wine, drinking a bunch of these over the years. I think the wine is at peak, which may differ from what you posted in your impression. I have just one left and I think 2016 is going to be the year I finish my last one of these beauties.

2/8/16, 7:29 PM - Frank - Thanks for the comment and feedback. I suspect we're seeing slightly different shades of gray in this wine. I don't think it's peaked yet but it's not far off either. I have two bottles left and will plan to drink one in ~12 months and another in ~24 months. Either way, a damn impressive RRV appellation Syrah. Cheers!
