February 29, 2016 - 6hrs slow ox, double decant and drank over following 4hrs. This is a wonderful and distinctive wine that has further improved in the last 2yrs. Like all great wines it evolves in the glass over a prolonged period, sucking you in to see what comes next (pop and pouring this wine will miss many of its wonders). Initially stewed and floral nose shows there is some Viognier there, before the Syrah takes over and it settles into bacon and olive tapenade, meat, sweet licorice and herbs. In the mouth this become very intensive although remaining fairly sweet for a long time, with acidity low and tannins there although very sweet and smooth (note there is still some oak integration to go). I'm not a fan of either low acid or over-ripe wines, but this works extremely well, it just needs air at this stage (peak maturity is probably 2020-2030). Taste complexities include crushed rock and salinity, dark chocolate and blackberry. Not only Northern Rhone - but this reminds me specifically of a slightly sweeter Bessards (one of my favorite Hermitage sites). The finish is intense, albeit it 'only' 30 secs. Highly recommended. Glad to have a few packs of this wine, pop the next bottle in 2018.

2/11/17, 9:15 PM - This really is a dandy and I am enjoying it right now. I have a few bottles left and will see how this evolves. This was a sensual explosion!
