March 6, 2016 - At home with a Spanish chicken/chorizo braise I made...impulse pull from the cellar to find a pairing. Its been a while since I had this wine, thought this may have been gone by now...decanted for about 45 minutes, drank over an hour.

Garnet, translucent color, mild separation at the edges. Nose of dark cherry, leather, violets, toasted oak. Palate of dusted cherry, blue fruits, pomegranate, pipe tobacco...mild oak/coconut on the back palate. Medium finish and body.

Very nice, integrated and mature wine. Probably a shade past its prime but should hold at this level for a few more years. Great pairing with meats/poultry,...anything with paprika will work...classic Rioja
