December 30, 2007 - pop and pour: pre-swirl - light tobacco, some cedar. fruit already showing on the nose. black cherries and almost a blueberry jam, just not that sweet. after a couple of swirls, lots of leather coming out along with the fruits.
colour: inky purple, lighter purple miniscus
taste: very tannic, which draws from many of the other flavours for me. leather, cherry, some blackberry flavours. mouthfeel is difficult for me to discern because tannins dry up my mouth almost right away. tannins are sweet.

after 60 mins decanted: lots of fruit on the nose - cassis, black cherry, and some of the cedar and tobacco left. some dark chocolate notes. at the very end of the bouquet I get some old polished leather. on the palate, feeling much heavier and the sweet tannins are still there, but they don't dry up my tongue as soon as they touch down. I still taste sweet tannins first, but my mouth is filled with great flavours afterwards - tabacco, leather and then lots of dark fruits followed by that dark chocolate fruity aftertaste. black cherry, some blackberry and wood. long finish. at the very end of the finish I get some peppery-ness with some roasted coffee bean. To my untrained palate, seems like this needs some time in the bottle, there are a lot of bitter notes to the flavour profile which I think would mellow out in a few more months.
