July 2, 2016 - I just love this vintage of Lalande. I always feel like I am coming home when I drink this wine. Incredibly consistent, the 1989 always delivers exactly what I expect from a mature Lalande. Yes, the 82 is a legend and the 96 should follow along, but the 89 always brings a smile to my face. Very underrated IMHO, the 89 Lalande is just behind the top tier 89s of HB, Lynch, Montrose, Angelus, and any that I missed. Classic nose of deep earth, tobacco, rich cassis, menthol, and distinct pencil. Everything that you would expect from a great Pauillac. The palate is equally as good and is sheer mouth filling joy. Sorted tannin, velvet, very long finish - everything that you could ask for. This wine should hold for quite some time and I give my strongest endorsement to well stored bottles. Bravo! 97 Pts
