June 30, 2016 - 7th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, previous notes variable - youthful deepish red; cherry, earth and touch of spice, some meat, simple; fullish, long, brutal, something good somewhere but will it ever really reveal itself, graceless. At best VGI (17).

7/4/16, 4:00 AM - Sounds like Maume wines. lol. I have 2 cases of '96 Maume wines (Charmes and Mazis), they were brutal/graceless for years but Mazis seems to be turning around at 20 yrs mark! You may get lucky with your '95 but .......

7/4/16, 6:49 AM - Hi PCLIN - yes agreed...I have the Mazis in 95, 96 and 98 and the Lavaux in 95 and 96. my last bottle of the 96 last year showed a big step up on hitherto and I marked it fine and I've had older vintages (eg 92 from magnum) of the Mazis in the past which I judged fine or better. I find his wines, even so, hard work and graceless, in spite of the good technical elements in them. Hopefully they'll turn the corner, but I won't hold my breath.
