July 28, 2016 - The first one of these uncorked tonight. And, all I can say is WOW. This wine is dark, deep, and complex. This is a mixture of Rutherford and Diamond Mountain fruit. After a 30 minute decant, the nose was graphite, blackberry, herbal. The entry is inky with great acidity and depth. The one word that keeps coming up in my brain is "thorough." Pencil lead, blackberry, soft, herbaceous with a hint of honeysuckle sweetness gave way to a darker, full bodied massive wine that finished with stiff, ample roasted cocoa bean tannin. WOW. Even after two hours of decanting, the acid on this one starts burning after 60 seconds so I know that this one is still "under construction." The herbal notes of this one combined with the darker notes paired perfectly with stuffed ravioli and sauteed mushrooms. I'd say that this one probably needs another 1-2 years before the second one gets popped......under the assumption that I don't buy another case of this! Drink or hold.
