Community Tasting Note

  • Sixchips600 Likes this wine: 92 points

September 5, 2016 - Similar to my last bottle a couple years ago but more development. Potent nose of mushroom, wet earth, iodine. Rustic. Nice earthy stewed fruit on the palate.

9/6/16, 7:13 AM - "Stewed" as in cooked or lacking freshness? Not usually a descriptor I think of as positive and a 92 score? The rest of the note aside from "rustic", sounds positive. How do you think of "stewed"? I have one of these.

9/6/16, 6:16 PM - Good question - I was attempting to describe the development and funk from aging that this wine is definitely starting to show. Its development is on the rustic side, as opposed to becoming silky. Hope that clarifies!

9/6/16, 6:30 PM - Thanks for the reply. I've been trying to lay off this since its an 05 and I only have one btl. Usually that's means waiting till around 2020 for best results from a single 05 but, if its becoming more rustic that's not very promising. Might be best to drink up?

9/6/16, 7:56 PM - Yes I think you are thinking about it correctly in this case. This is showing more maturity than my other 05s. But I also don't think you need to rush... 05s could be good forever. Too bad it's a one way street!
