October 20, 2016 - 4 Decades of Chateau de Beaucastel with a touch of Hommage with Richard Brazier (Handford Wines, London): Very different to any other Beaucastel we have tried over the years. Blind we would have said new world. Ripe, sweet, Jammy, lots of sweet ripe fruit on the palate, spicy, peppery, quite a bit of extract. Not sure if it was the very ripe 2007, maybe a slight change in style or just the fact of the fact they used more mouverde here but it felt this 2007 took an Australian vacation. Maybe it needs time but an 88 at best for now from us.
Last time we had this out of context wine was the 2003 La Mouline and generally with a few of the 2003s and properly, if we ever get to, this is how we feel with the 2009 Cos d'Estournel

10/20/16, 4:31 PM - I am trying to put Handford's tasting prices into context, as I left the UK 20 years ago. I see GBP90 a head for this tasting, and similar prices for his Burgundy/Bordeaux tastings . Is this the normal UK level?
    thank you

The 2007 BC is definitely a love/hate wine, and I would go further to say the same about many 2007 Rhone Wines. Funny enough, the Pegau 2007 impresses me far less than some of the off vintages like 2011 or 2006 for that matter...The only exception to the 2007 over extraction has been the Jannasse Vielle Vigne...That wine has elegance and power! What a combination...Good reading from ya mate :-)
