October 27, 2016 - A quite good, somewhat muted and now almost mature relatively inexpensive entry level to mid-level amarone - a veey reasonable QPR at our price point. Given a long 5-hour decant and would definitely recommend lots of air at this point. This wine easily has at least another 10-12 years+ to go with proper cellaring. Paired beautifully with a Chicago style deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati's. Dark purple, surprisingly soft & muted, big mouth feel, reasonably well balanced and reasonably complex - expect both of these last 2 characteristics to improve with time. Nose initially muted and became dark and intense with oak, dark fruit, leather and coffee notes with intense primary flavors of dark fruit, blueberry, chocolate, coffee and an interesting and totally unexpected note of eucalyptus on the very end. Definitely recommend this wine and with additional age expect at least another 1-2 points of improvement.
