October 30, 2016 - A very good and very interesting "super Campanian" blend of 60% cab sauv, 30% merlot and 10% local aglianico from Salerno - most vintages of this have the aglianico in the 20-30% range and cab ~ 50%. Probably a bit too expensive to be a reasonable QPR. Decanted for about 3 hours and this seemed about right - this wine is maturing, is approachable and very drinkable but still quite youthful and this can stand a lot of air. Paired very well with coq au vin & risotto. Dark, full bodied, balanced but present tannins, integrating well, cab-heavy as is obvious from the blend and it has a very nice long aftertaste. Big nose with prunes, raisins and coffee and a somewhat more subtle flavor profile of oak, red currant and red berries up front with darker, earthier notes of leather and tobacco later on the palate. Definitly recommend this wine.
