November 1, 2016 - A very good, youthful, big, dark and fruit forward 100% syrah from a premier producer in The Rocks AVA centered around Walla Walla WA. A very good QPR wine and with more maturation, integration and balance I easily see at least another additional 1-2 points. Easily another 5-10 years to go under proper cellaring conditions. Decanted for almost an hour and although approachable / drinkable now I would recommend, time allowing, a good 2-3 hour decant - right now this wine probably cannot get enough aeration. Nose dark, intense and slightly sweey with oak, dark fruit, sweet red cherry and a eucalyptusy note on the end. Flavor profile big, youthful and leaner / drier with oak, intense dark fruit and cola on the front end and a long, beautiful and lingering finish of more earthy gamey notes, again finishing up with a distinct minty / eucalyptusy note I generally equate with Aussie shirazs - ? eucalyptus trees on the property perhaps ? Definitely recommend this wine with the caveat that it needs more time or a lot of air.
