December 16, 2016 - At first pour, there's not much to discern between the '12 and '13: elegant fruit, serralunga spice, great acidity and notable but savory tannins. Give it a few hours and the vintages really show their differences with unmistakable Cappellano magic. The '12 is jovial, cinnamon spiced and seductive with medicinal dark cherry syrup whereas the '13 is more stern, ferrous and brimming with balsamic notes. Profiles like this can't be captured in a number score and I can't pick a favorite. To me, the '12 is that sudden craving for the sheer joy of Nebbiolo and the '13 is for a more serious meal while the Rupestris are sleeping in the cellar. I love these wines.
