December 25, 2016 - Now this is what a great Brunello is about! My first 'own cellar aged' Brunello with qualities from a superb vintage, a great producer and some gracefully long ageing.

Initially after popping the cork there was some funky barnyard smell. This quickly blew of but I still decided to let it slow-ox for several hours.
    After about 3 hours:

Light ruby color with barely any signs of ageing. Enticing aromas evolving from brooding and dark ripe fruit, wet earth and balsamic, to fresh and refined with bright cherry, leather and some floral hints. Silky smooth on the palate with nicely integrated layers of tannins and sweet fruit and supportive fresh acidity. Overall a great balance that goes all the way through to a finish that seems to go on for ever.

There are probably quite a few more years of life left for this classic Brunello, but I don't expect it will improve a lot.
    Drink now!
