December 31, 2016 - This is the priciest bottle in my cellar, and I had high expectations. The cork fell apart when I was pulling it out, which happens occasionally but it didn't bode well for this wine. The cork smelled like wet socks, and in the glass it showed some bricking. We drank some of it anyway, since some had described a barnyard taste, and I wasn't 100% sure it was corked or this was just part of the character. The wine expressed some interesting complexities, but was flat and lacked the pronounced fruit or dense extraction common in high end Napa wines. If I were to grade this, I'd compare it to a below average Burgundy red and give it perhaps an 84. But because I suspect it may have been flawed, I'm withholding a score.
