Community Tasting Note

January 14, 2017 - Very dark maroon color. Thick, slow legs. The nose is very full, dark berry fruit and funk (in a positive way). The initial palate is dry and a little dusty. The fruit seems either not fully ripe or somewhat faded. There's some strong tannins on the finish, but unfortunately there's not correspodingly strong fruit to help balance the tannins and so it leaves a tart finish. It's not a particularly big or powerful wine, but it's clean and well made. I'm finding my tasting note parallels Purple Tooth's, however, reading the pro reviews it appears this was a highly regarded wine when released. Based on what I've consumed it's either in a closed phase, or it didn't have the legs for the long haul. Either way, it's a solid "meh" bottle - but it did pair real nicely with some red meat and a simple salad.
