Community Tasting Note

  • Tony Poli Likes this wine: 92 points

January 20, 2017 - Drank along side of a 2007 Silvio Grasso Turne, which is Silvio's most traditional Barolo, aged in Slavonian Oak casks. This is aged in barriques. Decanted about an hour. Typical nebbiolo color. Nice nose of red fruits and some spice. Softer of the two, rich mouthfeel, plenty of balance, lots of fruit with the structure to stand up to it. Long finish. Seemed young, could go a while.

Another member of the community, wine strategies, informs me that the Chiniera is in fact aged in Slavonian Oak casks. So, my bad. This was smoother and sweeter than the Silvio Grasso Turne

1/30/17, 12:56 AM - The Chiniera is aged in 25HL Slavonian oak. Their Runcot bottling is the Barolo wine that sees French oak barriques, approximately 4 years ageing.

My (quite knowledgeable) friend who has spent time in Piemonte dismissively commented on the Chiniera when I bought it "I don't like his stuff. He uses barriques." The wine was wonderful.
