Community Tasting Note

  • Puteljen! Does not like this wine: 82 points

    February 25, 2017 - @restaurant Sjömagasinet, Gothenburg

A bit flat on the nose, none of the lovley fruit from the rest of the Taittinger lineup. My mind acctually strays to wet cardboard while sniffing this. On the palate too sweet (sweetness is to be expected of a sec of course, and a matter of taste I guess) and flabby but at the same time with a bitter aftertaste. Not much to like here I'm afraid, easily the worst wine of the evening.

I see my view of this wine differ from most tasters so perhaps further explanation is called for: I drink quite a lot of sweet and semi-sweet Riesling and generally have nothing against sweetness/sugar in wines, but they, like all wines, must be in balance, in this case usually meaning there is a balance between acids and sugar. In this champagne, it's not really the sweetness I dislike, even though I, like the late Winston Churchill, like my champagne cold, dry and free (Alas! All to seldom does one get all three), but rater the clumsiness, lack of definition and generally unattractive flavour profile.

3/8/17, 2:00 PM - No, not corked. I have the good fortune of having a wife very sensitive to TCA and neither of us thought it corked.
