Community Tasting Note

March 12, 2017 - Family get together at my parents. My father decided to finally pop another bottle. Dark red and black fruit - dark cherry, currants, and blackberry. Really smooth mid-palate with nice depth. Fairly rich and a little sweet. Solid finish but not overly long nor deep. Decanted for one hour and drank over another three. Not much improvement with time but at a nice drinking point. In all, a nice wine but I guess I expected more in light of Parker's 99 rating and WS 100 rating. I believe this vintage probably would have shown better for me a little younger in light of my style preference.

3/12/17, 7:40 PM - Good note Yeah I don't see that improving form your last tasting.

3/13/17, 3:47 AM - Still a nice bottle and surprisingly to me still a lot of life but I believe it probably peaked a couple years ago - really smooth but it didn't show the depth and overall character that I would expect for such a rating. Take care.

3/14/17, 7:00 PM - Bryant is one of my wish list wines. In that Napa caliber, I've had Dalla Valle Maya & Colgin Tychson Hill. Both great, but at $400 a pop it's a crazy proposition when you can get Mike's best wines for a fraction and comparable quality.

How far are you from Van Buren? Looks like I may have a work trip to the area in the next couple months.

3/15/17, 3:04 AM - I haven't had those wines yet but they are on my list along with the Shafer Hillside Select - although as you touched upon, I have a hard time paying the kind of money that those wines fetch when I can get a Carter Beckstoffer cab for around $180. The Bryant was nice and once again I believe it probably drank better a couple years ago (at least for my preference in cabs) but the price point is crazy. I'm probably around 45 minutes from Van Buren so let me know if you come up here.

3/15/17, 11:15 AM - I hear you. My father has one more bottle of the 1996 vintage and two of the 1997 vintage. Nice wine but I would sell them if it was me in light of what you can get for them.
