February 25, 2008 - I thought is was time to check on this one. I know, still a youngster.
Montesodi usually has a great potential to age. a 1985 that I tasted last year was still a treat.
I think the 2001 ranks among the best Montesodi's sofar, aloong with the 1990 and 1985.
The nose is all about Tuscany: fresh fruity juice, some barnyard and freshly baked breadon the palate it delivers great finesse. blackberries, cherries, licorice, and a hint of toast. still the power of youth, but it is starting to show the finesse it will bring in a coule of more years. It has all the structure to age with its frim tannins and acidity, but for near term enjoyment the stuffing is stunning.
finish is medium - long. a little bit too alcoholic at the moment.
It will gain more balance with age, but the power of the wine simply gives a lot of pleasure now.
