June 21, 2017 - I have drunk this wine twice in restaurants and have been taken aback by the lightness of the body and the balsamic acidity that reminds me of traditional Rioja. This wine has a soft, pretty nose of roses, pipe tobacco, and tart cherries. Not a hint of the "tar" in the "tar and roses" combo. And restaurants are right to put it on their wines by the glass menus; it is ready to drink now and definitely a food wine. But I don't score wines based on reputations. This is too tart for my tastes.

7/4/17, 2:33 PM - Allowing a wine like this to age, even 5 or so more years would soften the tartness and give it some complexity, though the tar might not come in this wine (I smell it more often in Barolo). Regardless, the only reason this was on a restaurant wine list is 2013 was likely cheaper than other vintages and thus suitable for BTG.
