July 2, 2017 - Previous notes apply. Black cherry and black raspberry notes dominated. This was smooth and approachable right out of the gate. Some purple plum flavors emerged after a couple of hours. I didn't get the chocolate or floral nuances that I have picked up from this wine in the past.

Some of its momentum faded (a slight letdown) after about two hours of air, with a rounder, more plump Merlot display taking over; this seemed to rob the Cab Franc of its push on the back end, resulting in a slight flatness on the finish.

Enjoyable nonetheless. 93-94 points this go-around. Although Aaron's wines (especially his namesake Cabernet Sauvignons) tend to perform optimally after about 6-8+ years in bottle from vintage, I'd say this particular wine is a more near-term drinker. Drink now and over the next few years (if you like some energy and intensity in your wine). It will likely go much longer, but I don't imagine it's drive or depth really increasing with any significant age.

12/11/17, 7:01 AM - Thanks. I do tend to favor Aaron's Cabernet Sauvignon wines over the Carte, but it was still enjoyable. The 2012s are good, but the intensity of the 2013s is really captivating. The '13 Arsenal is awesome.
