April 8, 2017 - Opera Wine 2017 - 100 Great Producers (Verona, Italy): As with many in the Santadi stable, this is in need of more time. For my palate, I'd love to see at least another year, preferably two - and even then, I think an hour in decanter would be wise. That said, there's good and obvious purity to the fruit, and, as with many/most of their Carignan wines, there's a rich, complex earthen feast at the core. I had fun swirling, digging for more and more soil notes to emerge - I wish I could have spent some time with this but today was not that day. Easily recommended

7/4/17, 2:07 PM - I have the 2009 Grotta Rossa, and it is some roller coaster: much better with food than as a solist, pretty acidic and very unique in character. Should buy a newer vintage soon and compare the two.
