Community Tasting Note

  • Musigny1955 Likes this wine: 91 points

August 19, 2017 - {cellared since release, perfect fill, decanted and tried - drunk with Mark K, Barb S and Jane L} Still red wine, no brown rim; very Ursules scent of mature fruit, animale, minerals and smoke; excellent depth of fruit on attack, and in long persistent finish; curiously less full (only medium weight) in middle palate, where the '96 austerity can still be perceived, a very dry wine in the middle but black > red fruits throughout. Did I mention the lovely nose and killer finish? To repeat Josgood, "depth and breadth" in this wine. Savage acid and austerity of this '96 seem to have turned the corner. Drink or hold, probably at least another 5 years. My score may be conservative.

8/20/17, 10:51 AM - Hi JohnTelford, the 96 Ursules was decanted and we tried a small glass immediately afterwards. I think the wine was improved by the airing but there was no remarkable change in the wine over the first 15-30 minutes. I have another 3-4 bottles and will decant and taste just as this one was. Best wishes Musigny1955
