April 21, 2014 - Never had a bigger, silkier, more alluring, bolder, more buttery Cab (or any wine, for that matter) than this Bin 707 on this day. Absolutely Monumental. This bottle, this moment was the only time we ever experienced a wine move like Grand Marinier in the glass... Mesmerizing to watch it roll; the legs went on like Elle Macpherson's; the bold strength of the juice, like another Aussie, Mr. Jackman...

Simply put, the best bottle of wine we've ever had. Completely outclassed what we'd enjoyed before or since. Years later, we are still talking about this wine. We kept the bottle and didn't put any other vin in the glasses until we cracked an eleven year old 389 in 2017. Bin 707 for us is liquid silk. Just incredible.

Sorry we don't have the details of whether the wine tasted like tar, chocolate, pencil or blackberry, but what we remember is it is and was, simply the biggest, most fulfilling, rewarding, mouth pleasing, vin we have ever shared. We have one more of these 2001 gems in the cellar and wonder when we'll have that pleasure!

For him, it was the oral equivalent of driving the Ferrari 458 at MIS-Brooklyn at 150 MPH on the front straight. Simply put, smile-inducing and forcing uncontrollable giggles...

For her, it was like attending live, the Vienna Boys' Choir at its annual Christmas gala; awe inspiring and moving as an event, crescendos to an unforgettable experience.

Of course, we enjoyed it at The Huron House in Oscoda for the wife's birthday, so that couldn't have hurt any wine's chances for loving it.

Purchased at $90 for the cellar probably around 2005... Now we see it's $325 - $400 per, and we understand why. That's our photo of the two glasses flanking the 2001 bottle, with the Penfolds "Rewards of Patience" book in the foreground and Lake Huron darkness beyond...

    Yes, we LOVE this wine.

3/6/18, 1:11 PM - Excellent note. 707 is treasure. Penfolds never get it wrong.

If you like high end Penfolds, I would expect you to like Elderton Command. Have tried it?

3/6/18, 8:30 PM - Never even heard of Elderton, will look into it. Thanks! But our Williamson Wine from Healdsburg CA, comes straight from a former Penfolds winemaker...

3/6/18, 8:35 PM - We have been seeing Penfolds' St Henri for $69 (plus shipping) to $89 at local stores, but have not pulled the trigger yet because (1) Mollydooker Boxer is $26 and we gave that like 91 pts so why spend $80...?...

And we left a note on our 2001 Penfolds RWT, did you read that novella of ours?
