Community Tasting Note

September 16, 2017 - Received from my local wine club. PNP. Bouquet is pretty classic. Black Cherry notes intermingled with darker fruits and cigar box. Pleasant and improves with some simple aeration.

Palate out of the gate is both fruit forward but also tart and tannic. Mouthpuckering..... Interlaced plum and black cherry but laced with the same cigar box acidity and also some mentholiptis and anise.

My first reaction to this wine was too fruit forward and tart for me at the same time but 10 minutes into the glass and it is changing. Bouquet is opening up more and gaining some perfumed notes. The fruit and acidity are blending and softening a bit on the palate. With all my tasting and reviews I still get somewhat challenged on the acidity vs tannin content in the wine and this one is tough. It is mouth puckering like a highly tannic wine would be. But the acidity on the palate feels citric more like a white wine.

I just don't know. I like it but it also might be better to sit. IT will either soften in the tannin/acidity area and if so has the fruit to age as it does, or it will go to vinegar.

Color and appearance: 7 - Good. Nothing flawed, nothing special
Nose: 8 - Borderline excellent for me. Really nice. Nice blend of fruit, perfume and cigar box
Palate: 6 - Good for me. Nothing special but may bet better with longer aeration of bottle age.
Balance: 6 - Good but not great. Fruit punching through too much on one side and acidity pushing through on the other.
Finish: 7: Good. Stays even and ends firm.

    7/8/6/6/7 - 34/84
