November 11, 2017 - After reading many glowing reviews on CT regarding Carter wines, I decided to purchase a mixed case. After waiting with anxious anticipation for the wine to arrive I opened a bottle of Fortuna and it more than lived up to what I had been hoping I would experience. Complex, layered and concentrated, the Fortuna can best be described as a hedonistic example of what a good Napa Cabernet has to offer. I noticed hints of dark plum, jam and blackberry, with lots of fruit and a touch of sweetness. Very smooth with a nice finish. Not as powerful as some of the really high end Napa cabs, but certaainly at under $100 per bottle as good of a wine as I have had in quite a while. Since I was so anxious to try my first Carter wine I popped and poured. I’m curious if the wine would have been even better with more patience. I will try decanting for a few hours on my next bottle, but probably not for many more months as I suspect the Fortuna will show even better when I allow time to pass vs. drinking it right off the UPS truck.
