Community Tasting Note

November 12, 2017 - After trying a very impressive Fortuna to start the weekend, on a whim I decided to take it up a notch and try my first ever O.G. two evenings later. The O.G. is such a massive tasting wine it is difficult to describe the experience with justice. The wine has so many complex and nuanced flavors I would be doing the wine a disservice in limiting the description to tastes I could discern. Concentrated and rich comes to mind as does a finish that is so long and balanced that the different notes that show up are almost unending. I decanted for 2 hours and my sense is that the O.G. will get even better with time, though the wine is showing so well right now I did not have even the slightest remorse for opening one of the only four bottles I was able to get my hands on. My next Carter milestone will be my first ever Las Piedras, although there will be no opening on a whim with what appears to be the holy grail of the 2015 Napa vintage.

11/13/17, 1:35 PM - Nice note, TXRDW. I plan to drink through Carter's lineup at home as my only tastes thus far were at the winery. And with so many bottles, it's a little overwhelming! At the winery, the Las Piedras La Verdad was a step up and in a different league. Is it a 100 point wine? IDK. But I plan to find out soon!

11/13/17, 2:11 PM - Thanks #1Winelover for your comment, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who is impatient with the recent Carter shipment. I’ll probably try the Las Piedras pretty soon as I am quite curious after reading so many superlative reviews. The problem is that they only let me purchase 2 bottles.

11/13/17, 3:55 PM - You guys are way ahead of me...I’m only beginning to consider my 12s. Glad to hear the high numbers are showing across the 15 line up as I went very deep this year. Keep drinking and posting. Great notes!

11/13/17, 5:21 PM - Great note. The OG is very good for sure. The GTO and Verdad are next level even more so.

11/15/17, 1:09 PM - Thanks CSIMM. I decided to put the Verdad up against a 2012 Hillside Select at a friend’s birthday party in a few weeks. I’m betting on the Verdad.
