December 1, 2017 - I had vowed not to open another of these for a couple of years. Mission accomplished, although now I'm 2 years older! One of the sobering ironies of keeping a cellar, I guess. On to the wine...
This left moderate sediment in the bottle when I decanted it. Aromatically, it showed a bit of sulphur that blew off within a few minutes. A bit shy at first, it opens up to reveal the classic PS mix of black and blue fruits with a fair amount of oak (which I happen to like but others might find intrusive). A couple hours later, some tertiary notes of autumn leaves were there in the background, adding interest. Full-bodied and rich with wonderful mid- and back-palate intensity. Tannin is less brutal than before but it's still pretty tongue-clenching. I will hold off another year or two before opening my last bottle, although this definitely has the stuffing to go much longer than that. (92+)2 people found this helpful 2,369 views
