  • Keith Levenberg Likes this wine: 90 points

December 10, 2017 - Drank over two days, and it's a good thing too, because the structure was so punishing the first day that it was hard to get anything out of it. Some seriously drying and abrasive tannin here. The fruit, however, is dark and deep, just needs a long time for the structure to relax before it comes out to play. Then it's characterized by blueberry/blackberry flavors delivered with a piercing primary intensity and a hint of lead pencils. This almost feels atypical for Margaux because it's so stern and masculine and dark in tone, but it's one serious bottle of Bordeaux that strikes a nice balance between the old-fashioned, austere structure and the slicker, swankier fruit tones.
