December 28, 2017 - 4 Guys, 7 Wines, Blind Tasting & Dinner: Tasted blind and thanks to the typical mint/eucalyptus and asian spice aromas well identifiable as Aussie Shiraz. Of course, it is still too young but with a proper decant (4 hours) it was drinking well with nice blue and black fruit (at first it felt slightly overripe), some spices and the before mentioned mint/eucalyptus. No hints of secondary aromas yet. Desnity and structure quite impressive and pointing that this something high end in the glass. This will likely shed-off some more of its baby fat and gain a lot of complexity with time.

1/19/18, 5:36 AM - Cheap Aussie cabs are often herbaceous driven leading with one dimensional boring mint and eucalypt, as opposed to a nice fruit driven wine. Unusual to see these characteristics in a Shiraz, let alone in one our countries [top 10] flagships.

1/19/18, 5:47 AM - I tend to disagree. Just had a Torbreck Run Rig 2013 yesterday and beside the opulent fruit the mint/eucalyptus was the dominant factor. Only with time in the glass it got better and better integrated but never disappeared (I wouldn't want it to disappear). Same is true for a Grange 2012 I had some months ago. Of course these three wines had a lot of lovely fruit but also this mint/eucalyptus component. As they were all babies, this component might get push into the background the older they get. Haven't had this with some aged bottles of Astralis or Brookenwood Shiraz.

1/19/18, 2:27 PM - Sorry I wasn't meaning to offend by any means. My comment around boring was towards at cheaper Aus Cabernets, nothing more. Was more curious to the descriptors as they are not typical of Aus shiraz (certain Langhorne Creek may be an exception). Glad to see you are enjoying Aussie wine though, happy drinking!
