January 2, 2018 - Decanted for two hours then consumed over the next three. This is my first Myriad Cab, and my lack of history will most likely effect my present thoughts. I enjoyed the silky delivery and the flavors which were impressive upon entry to mid-palate but ended with just a small echo at the finish. Unfortunately, the wine never grabbed me. It seemed to me to be sleepwalking across the palate. I wanted personality, a life of the party, but the glass gave me a slinky Stepford wife. A pretty wife, for sure, but lacking in spark or soul. My sense is that it is missing the feel of structure, especially an acid nip at the finish. Perhaps it is a stylistic thing with me, but hopefully more time in the bottle will alter my opinion.

1/2/18, 11:07 AM - Nice note. I can't specifically speak for this wine because I'm still letting the 2014 Dr Cranes lay down longer but in my opinion Mike's 2014 cabs aren't showing real well right now - they appear to be in a difficult/transition phase and the fruit is somewhat shutdown in consideration of my recent tastings of the 2014 Quivet Kenefick cab, 2014 Quivet napa cab, and 2014 Myriad Beckstoffer Georges cab. I'm letting those wines lay down for at least another year. In addition, Mike did recommend holding off on the 2014 Myriad Beckstoffer Dr Crane for at least 2 to 3 years from release even if drinking young and we're just now past a year. Hopefully better times ahead. Take care.

1/2/18, 5:22 PM - Thank you for the comment. I have read a number of your reviews and respect your opinion. Over the last year or two I have been attempting to get back into Napa Cab after some seven years immersing myself in Rhone varietals from Paso. Thus, I have little history with the wines I have acquired. I am finding it a bit difficult not popping some of them, especially since I have to make decisions on whether to invest even further in a producer I have never experienced. I will probably continue with the Myriad 2016s and take the advise to leave the 2014s alone for another year at least. Thanks again.

1/3/18, 5:52 AM - jeagle, if you have any of Mike's 2015 entry level cabs I believe they are drinking quite well right now. Mike recommended giving them ideally another 6 to 12 months to add a little weight but once again I believe they are drinking well - 2015 Quivet napa, 2015 Quivet Kenefick cab, 2015 Becklyn cab, and 2015 Scarlett cab in particular. I'm trying to let the higher-end 2015 cabs lay down a little longer as also recommended by Mike - at least a year. Supposedly 2016 is another good year. Take care.

    1/3/18, 7:57 AM - 2016 Crane/Elysian looks to be pretty epic...

1/3/18, 8:54 AM - csimm, I noticed your note for the 2016 Myriad Elysian - nice note and great to hear. Looks like I could be allocating a lot of money to that vintage with yields up and Mike's new cabs. Take care.

1/3/18, 2:58 PM - Yes I’m indeed looking forward to and dreading the January 16th release...my credit card will be angry at me again.
