Community Tasting Note

January 29, 2018 - Just wrote a long tasting note here and something blew up when I tried to save it. Can't go through it again. Complicated tasting for me. Long story. Overall, this wine will shine of fail in time. Got it at Total wine. I am an old world wine drinking for the most part. Bordeaux, Rhone and Italy. I do love a truly good CA cab but the ones I like (Heitz, Pine Ridge, etc) start at $50 and go up. Not my every day price tag. Lower end stuff is just too fruit forward with no structure. South America normally fails for me. Too much unripe fruit. It's a terroir thing.

Anyway, this was supposed to be a $25 cab that drinks like 50. Great color and clarity. Shines like glass. Strong legs. Fantastic nose that centers on dark fruit (blackberry) but has loads of tobacco, cocoa and spice (black peppercorn).

The palette disappointed me a bit. Could carry a bit more fruit. Tannins seemed weak. No pucker for me but a good dose of acidity. I got a second bottle and a betting man will lay it down for a few years and see what happens. This is either one to buy a case and enjoy over a decade or it is at it's peak and simply missed some stuff. Great marks on presentation and nose but nothing special when it comes to palate balance and finish. It is okay at the $25 dollars if you don't need a lot of fruit. I could probably buy better though at $25 for my taste and it is not a $50 bottle.

    9/9/7/7/7 - 39/89
