March 17, 2018 - 2003 Bordeaux at 15 years courtesy of Mark Taylor; 3/17/2018-3/18/2018 (Atlanta, GA): Is this Pauillac? Scorchy and high pitched with a huge palate. Seaweed and some green notes have me leaning to Cos, but the spicy mint and menthol on an absolutely plush, silky, blanketing palate have me thinking Pichon Lalande. Incredibly fine and silky tannins with texture that stands out. Guessed as Lalande, but this was Pavie. Ranked 1 out of 6 and the group #4.

3/20/18, 4:15 PM - Thanks for the note, Eric. I have a case but haven’t cracked it.

As I remember, this was a very polarizing wine, with Parker giving it a great score and Jancis one of her lowest ever.

If you thought that it could be a classic Pauillac like PL, clearly it could not fit the caricature of wine that Jancis perceived!

This entire vintage is polarizing. I’ve loved most of the 2003s I’ve tasted, and still very much look forward to drinking the Leo B, PC and others I have left. To me, it represents fine Bordeaux with the kind of ripe, rich but not roasted fruit CA does so well. To me, Napa is not a four letter word when describing Bordeaux; Jancis and many other ex excellent tasters disagree. To each his own!

I still need to write up day 2, but we tasted 24 wines from 2003 Bordeaux including most of the first growths, and other than a very odd showing from Leoville-Poyferre most were aging very well.

2/12/19, 2:59 PM - Michael, while I appreciate the intent, we are not a commerce platform, and all of your comments were "offering" the wine to people. I recommend you check out the Commerce Corner on Wine-Berserkers. That is exactly what they specialize in.

Couldn't find Commerce Corner on Wine-Berserkers.

    Thanks, anyway.
